Theatre a la Sauvage
Method or Madness in Ernest and Ernestine
This year’s Fringe Festival is sneaking up on all of us with great intensification. The excitement is electrifying while watching the St Ambroise Fringe beer tent go up! The buzz this year lands on a duo who take their show down the slippery path of method acting.
Method acting is very controversial in the theatre world, often declared dangerous or hypocritical to the art of acting. The actor becomes the character in and out of the theatre.
So when director Darin Pons told his actors they would be living together for 2 to 3 weeks before Cool Beans production of Theatre Columbus`s The Anger in Ernest and Ernestine, the theatre world’s jaw dropped.
“Our strength in the relationship has become a great asset to the whole experience,” said cast member Maria Waslenko. “We have been playing games and cooking each other’s dinner, at one point the breakfast scene came to life without any intention as I flew around rushing to get ready for work, while Mitchell [Cohen] stood there holding this breakfast he made for me.”
The two finish each other’s sentences, a side effect of all the time spent together.
“All three of us worked with Joe De Paul (esteemed cirque du soleil clown), and started building the characters in the form of his teachings,” said Cohen. “Together we created a strong base to grow from and we are constantly in a state of discovery”
This is on our must see list! Don`t miss this show!
