I Believe in Your Concordia
I am normally not particularly vocal when it comes to student politics, but this year’s CSU election seriously has my attention. It’s tempting to get annoyed by the campaigning, or “harassment,” but I try to remember that the student politicians are just trying to get their message heard.
That being said, I have been quite put off by the aggression of the Action slate’s campaigning thus far. Although I do appreciate a good sugar rush every now and then, having a lollipop virtually forced into my hand in the Hall building brings back scarring childhood memories… Perhaps this is why some students have found it difficult to take the elections seriously.
The problem is, these elections are a very serious matter. Some of our tuition money is going to the CSU, and they have the incredibly daunting role of spending it the best way they can. I’m inclined to believe that we may not care about the CSU if they’re doing a poor job, but that if they were truly using that money to the best of their ability, our school could be changed so much for the better!
I completely believe in the Your Concordia slate. As a resident in Grey Nuns, I have spent a good amount of time with AJ West, Ali Moenk, Lorne Segall and Morgan Todd. More importantly, both Laura Glover and Tally Shaaked have played a large role in my Concordia life so far. These women are two of the most loyal, passionate, motivated and well-intentioned people I have ever met. Not only does Glover make her voice heard with causes she feels passionate about (ie. WHALE, The Gulu Walk Movement), she does everything she can to improve the lives of those around her on a daily basis.
I thoroughly encourage anyone reading this letter to check out their website at yourconcordia.ca; the goals and ideas speak for themselves!
