10-man Orlando Top FC Montreal at Home
Montreal’s Losing Streak Increases to Five
Despite being one man up for more than 70 minutes by way of a red card to defender Devron Garcia, FC Montreal were still unable to pick up their first points of the season. Montreal fell, for a fifth straight game, to Orlando City B 1-0 on Sunday night.
Orlando City B didn’t wait to get their team on the score sheet. At the tenth minute Tyler Turner sent a cross from his right flank which travelled through the box. Fullback Tyler Turner headed the cross back in the middle towards forward Michael Cox who didn’t miss his opportunity to head the ball in the goal.
The men in purple went through their stretch of bad luck later on in the first half. OCB dropped to ten men when defender Devron Garcia made a slide tackle to stop a goal scoring opportunity by Montreal forward Charles Joly. Garcia was the last defender on Joly’s attack and received a straight red card from the referee.
Orlando lost another player from their starting 11 as midfielder Richie Laryea left due to injury midway through the first half. Despite these two incidents, Orlando remained solid and headed back to the locker rooms with a 1-0 score line at halftime.
The home team made fans at the Titan Soccer Complex in Melbourne, Florida, think that both teams had 11 players. Montreal never seemed to have capitalized on the man advantage—of their 15 shots taken during the game, five were on target.
FC Montreal head coach, Philippe Eullaffroy, made aggressive substitutions with 15 minutes left in the game, but his efforts were cut short. The final whistle blew to a visibly disappointed away squad.
Five games in: Looking like 2015
With five games behind them, Montreal has yet to record a point, and has only scored two goals in the process. There are similarities with the bleu-blanc-noir’s 2015 season.
Looking back, Eullaffroy’s squad also had a five-game losing streak coming into their inaugural season. Last year’s team also scored a total of two goals in their first five games.
Positives for the team still remain this year as they managed to score two games into the season, whereas last year’s team scored on their third game. Montreal will also be happy to know that last year’s squad won their sixth game 1-0 against the Charleston Battery.
For now, FC Montreal will continue with the fourth of their five-game road trip in North Carolina where they will play the Charlotte Independence on May 7.
