Stingers Succumb to Lacers in Preseason Tilt
Men’s Soccer 0-2, but Coach Not Worried
In their second exhibition game, the Concordia Stingers lost to the visiting Windsor Lacers 3-2 making for double losses in the men’s soccer pre-season.
“It’s nothing,” said Stingers head coach Lloyd Barker. “For us, we’re just seeing players. We’re only one week into camp; the result is irrelevant.”
The Stingers started the game strong after nearly capitalizing on a scoring chance from the edge of the box, only to have the shot hit off the right post in the second minute of action.
They found the back of the next seven minutes later, but the Lacers controlled the rest of the first half, outshooting the Stingers 6-3 and scoring two unanswered goals in the 16th and 35th minutes.
While the Stingers did tie the game in the 61st minute, the Lacers soon began chipping away slowly at the Concordia defence, scoring in the 82nd minute when a Lacer beat his marker and tapped the ball into a gaping net.
The Stingers will play a few more exhibition games before their season opener against Universite de Montreal on September 6.
Barker said after the game that the new crop of players will definitely help the team be successful this year.
