Stingers Draw Lancers in Pre-Season Opener
Concordia Women’s Soccer Hold On For a Tie
“Of course we wanted to win,” said Stingers head coach Jorge Sanchez. “Winning is like a skill set, but in the end we took our foot off the pedal.”
The Stingers started strong, dominating possession early on and getting two quick shots on net, but it wasn’t until the 20th minute that the Stingers would have their best opportunity to score in the game when forward Emily Hubbard found herself on a breakaway but failed to capitalize.
While both teams would trade possession for the rest of the half, the Lancers would finish with a 5-3 margin in shots on target.
The second half mirrored the first, featuring two cautious teams in the midst of applying new play formations and players.
The Stingers relented late in the second half, scrambling numerous times after a late flurry by the Lancers. The Stingers nervously yielded three corners in the last ten minutes, but the Lancers failed to take advantage.
Coach Sanchez said he expects his team to get better as the pre-season progresses and plans to trim his roster by early next week.
