Concordia’s women’s rugby team simply mopped the floor with the Bishop’s Gaiters on Sept. 16 in a 94-0 spanking at Loyola Field. The score was so lopsided that the officials had to issue a mercy call.

From start to finish, the Stingers had little competition. They were dominant from the front row all the way back, and they looked to be faster, stronger and much more prepared than their opponents.

ConU was looking to bounce back from their loss to Laval last week. Coach Graeme McGravie said that it was the hard work done in practice that led to their strong execution in the game.

The exertion paid off, since the Stingers seemed to gain more and more momentum as the game went on. In the second half, with the game already 54-0, Bishop’s started to show some signs of life when they finally had some offensive pressure with 27 minutes to go.

They were stopped, however, and the Stingers opened up on them once again, quickly converting three tries in a row, after which the game was ended, much to the disappointment of the players and fans, many of whom were hoping to see their squad surpass the 100-point mark.

The team will compete on the road against the Ottawa Gee-Gees next Sunday. They will be looking to the momentum that they gained from this victory going. Kickoff is at 3:30 p.m.
