The Stingers women’s basketball team wasted no time showing off their talent versus Bishop’s Thursday night, blowing out the Gaiters with a score of 69-32.

Stingers forward Marilyse Roy-Viau scored a game-high 19 points and had 8 rebounds, but her team scored by committee with four players scoring 10 or more points. Forward Richelle Gregoire scored 12 points and amassed 14 rebounds for a double-double.

Bishop’s forward Mara Marchizotti had a team-high 7 points. However, the Stingers’ offensive prowess was too much to overcome.

From the first whistle, the Stingers had a plan and executed it to perfection, leading the Gaiters 24-3 at the end of the first quarter. The Stingers would continue to dominate the game by scoring another 15 points, holding a comfortable 39-11 lead into the half.

On their way to the victory, the Stingers capitalized on the Gaiters’ 26 turnovers by scoring 36 points.

While the Gaiters may have contemplated making a comeback into the game, the Stingers squashed any hopes and left little doubt about the game’s result.

The Stingers will play the Bishop’s Gaiters again on Saturday, Jan. 17, which will be part of the Shoot for the Cure campaign, a charity that seeks to raise money for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.
