Stingers Decide to Keep it in the Family
Marc-Andre Element Returns as Concordia Stingers Men’s Hockey Coach
The Concordia Stingers have announced that interim head coach Marc-Andre Element will be returning to the team. This time without the interim tag.
“It’s going to be fun to continue what we started last year,” Element said. ““Last year I did it like I was the real head coach for the program so I’m just going to keep doing what I was doing last year.”
It is currently unclear who the assistant coaches will be next year. Element said that he would “evaluate the situation.”
The job description revealed that the contract was for five years, however Element could not comment on that.
With the coaching issue solved, Element already has recruits ready to commit to the program for next year. So far three players from the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, Alexandre Gosselin, Anthony Gingras, and Matthieu Desautels have committed. Captain, Olivier Hinse will also be returning to the team for his fifth and final year.
In his first year of coaching, the Stingers recorded 10 wins, 12 losses, and 6 overtime losses. In the post-season, the team was swept by the McGill Redmen in the first round of the Ontario University Athletic playoffs.
Before coaching the Stingers, Element temporarily served as an assistant coach under former head coach Kevin Figsby. He also played as a winger on the Stingers for five years and captained the team in his final two seasons.
