Occupy McGill Enters 4th Day

The occupation on the 6th floor of the James Administration building has now entered its third day.

The McGill administration cut the electricity in the occupied room around 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, and the day before disabled the internet access to the building.

After running low on food despite repeated attempts by supporting students to deliver some, the occupiers announced via twitter that they had managed to receive supplies via a pulley mechanism. Contacted a few moments before, an occupier who asked to be identified as Becca, told us the occupiers still had access to a bathroom. The negotiations however hadn’t been very effective. “We still haven’t had negotiations with the university regarding our demands,” said Becca. “They refuse to even mention it.”

“There have been talks today,” said Director of Media Relations Doug Sweet. “The university wants this to come to a rapid and peaceful conclusion.” It is unclear at the moment if more security guards were dispatched to the building. “Our allies told us there were about 30 guards in front of the building, about 10 moved in, and then more moved in,” said Becca. “We haven’t seen any of them.”

“We, the support support have split ourselves up among the various exits in order to help defend them,” told us Molly, a student. In a email sent to all students, VP Administration and Finance Michale Di Grappa denied any increase in security. He also reiterated that “complaints will be lodged against the protestors.”
