The Parti Québécois (PQ), led by Paul St-Pierre Plamondon, is projected to form Quebec's next government, according to CBC News as of 11 p.m. Monday.

St-Pierre Plamondon is expected to be elected Monday night and will become Quebec's next premier when Quebec Lieutenant Governor Manon Jeannotte swears him in, after the final seat counts are confirmed and the outgoing administration formally steps down.

He has promised to hold a referendum on Quebec sovereignty after the United States President Donald Trump’s term has ended. The referendum was last held in 1995; the “No” side won with 50.58 per cent of the vote.

The Parti libéral du Québec is projected to become the official opposition party to the PQ by winning the second-most number of seats.

The Parti conservateur du Québec also made tremendous gains, winning the third-most seats. In the previous 2022 provincial election, they won zero seats.

Québec solidaire, led by co-spokespersons Ruba Ghazal and Sol Zanetti, is expected to remain at a similar seat count.

The Coalition Avenir Québec is projected to win zero seats. Premier Christine Fréchette admitted defeat on Monday night.

The PQ is projected to form a minority government, according to CBC News.
