Occupy Wall Street Protest Migrates to Montreal
Protesters Call for Economic Change North of the Border
New York City’s Occupy Wall Street protest was brought Montreal for a couple hours on Sept. 23.
The few protesters gathered by the Montreal Stock Exchange at Victoria Square. Allie Henderson and Phil Thacker to spread the message of the activists in New York, who disagree with the way the global economic system is run.
Because the mainstream media has been reticent on reporting the events, satellite protests have sprung up around the world to help spread the activists’ message. Protests are now spreading, taking place in cities such as Tel Aviv, Lisbon and Tokyo.
Occupy Wall Street seeks to emulate the uprisings sweeping the Arab world by mobilizing public support for their calls of economic justice. Thacker says another more formal Montreal rally is likely to happen, though no definite plans have been made.
Still motivated, despite the small turn-out, Henderson says, “It doesn’t matter how big or how small [the turn-out] is––it matters that you protest.”
Thacker put it another way: “This is just the beginning of the revolution.”
