Heard in the Street
We took to the streets on the March 22 Day of Action to ask students why exactly it’s worth it to fight tuition hikes.
-
“I get a lot out of education that I wouldn’t get anywhere else if I just went to a job straight out of high school. I don’t want to see a Canada that’s more like the United States.”
-
“I’m mostly against the idea of turning our school into the relation of client with service provider. I think Jean Charest and his crew will dig their heels in and in order to get results it will be a long haul.”
-
“A lot of my friends will finish school with a lot of debt and most of them are in fine arts so they won’t necessarily have access to well-paying jobs when they graduate. I think there are enough people out today that things might change.”
-
“It’s really hard being a Concordia student where not everyone is on board and not everyone is putting in 100 per cent. It’s just really hard and stressful when you have classmates against other classmates.”
-
“I don’t think the strike is ending on March 22, I think it starts on March 22. I’ve heard figures that after eight weeks there’s a chance the government will budge. The fear is that people will think it’s not worth it anymore and they’ll drop out.”
