Chance the Rapper Comes to Concordia
Chancelor Bennett aka Chance the Rapper captured an entire class’s attention this past Wednesday evening while discussing his upbringing, artists he’s worked with and a fart. Ridiculous as it may sound, he used a fart metaphor for the creative process behind his successful mixtape, Acid Rap, much to the amusement of those in attendance.
It’s quite an accomplishment to get hundreds of students clamouring to be in a class. Such is life for Concordia professor Yassin Alsalman aka The Narcicyst, or Narcy, who managed to land Chance the Rapper as a special guest for his class, Hip-Hop: Past, Present, Future, a weekly class that discusses concepts and artists within the realm of the genre.
The rapper happened to be in town for his show at the Olympia Theatre for his Family Matters Tour, alongside producer Metro Boomin, and rappers D.R.A.M and Towkio.
“I think for students this was a great opportunity,” said Alsalman. “[Chance] didn’t go to university so to be speaking at a university for what he did, I think this it’s an experience that he will take away and will stay with him.”
It is the third time this semester that Alsalman has invited major guests to the hip-hop class. Earlier in the semester, photography/DJ duo Mochilla took part in the class, as well as local producer Kaytranada and brother, rapper Louie P.
