Scavengers in the City

Montreal Search Has High Possibility of Fun

Montreal Impossible isn’t your average scavenger hunt.

Teams of 12 will have three days, starting on Nov. 6, to conquer the streets of Montreal by performing different tasks such as uploading cinematic reenactments to YouTube or building a functional bicycle out of hanger wires and two-by-four wooden planks.

Francois Vincent, the event’s organizer, encourages people to sign up for the unusual experience.

“I had initially only intended to have groups sign up because the focus of the hunt items are generally things that individual people could not do on their own,” said Vincent.

“I want a group to feel like they were brought together by knocking off the items on the list and to have them do things that they can look at each other a few years later and go, ‘Hey, remember when we did that thing for Impossible Montreal?’”

Each team must consist of at least two people, a captain and a wizard. The captain is the chosen leader of the group that communicates with the judging committee during the hunt. The wizard is in charge of uploading any tasks to the Internet.

“I want it to be so much fun that they drag their friends to try it again at next year’s edition. Besides, who doesn’t like being a hero on a quest?” Montreal Impossible organizer François Vincent

Organizers suggest that a third person, a pilot, be assigned to navigate the streets and have access to a vehicle.

A variety of prizes includes: A round of drinks at Brutopia for the top two teams, tickets to the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, and a board game from local company MJ Games.

The hunt is open to anyone above the age of 18. People can sign up as a team or individually—individuals will be added to another team on the day of the hunt.

Vincent says the $10 will be well worth the fun.

“I want it to be so much fun that they drag their friends to try it again at next year’s edition. Besides, who doesn’t like being a hero on a quest?” said Vincent.

Sign-up sheets can be downloaded online from impossiblemontreal.com. The sign up deadline is Oct. 29.
