Orientation, Take Two
CSU Announces Partial Line-Up For Winter Orientation
It’s back to school for all and the start of a new semester. Students are preparing to take on new courses and responsibilities, and Concordia Student Union VP Student-Life Laura Glover is hoping to help ease the way into winter with this year’s edition of the Winter Orientation Week.
“Our aim is to provide events that are sort of refreshing,” she said. “You come back, it’s cold, you just had this break, [so we want to help you get] back in the flow of things.”
O-Week is scheduled to begin on Jan. 23 with a Welcome Back Coffee and Snack event that will be held in the downtown Library Atrium throughout the day. Here, students can meet their peers and any questions can be answered.
Jan. 24 has been deemed Outdoors Day at the Loyola Campus. The shuttle-bus will be running every twenty minutes between the two campuses. Outdoors Day, in collaboration with the Arts and Science Federation of Associations will host sports, serving coffee and
hot chocolate to those on the sidelines. The evening will host a Cultural Night and the CSU will be working with the International Ethnic Associations Council who represents a number of cultural clubs on campus under the Dean
of Students.
“We are really reaching out and trying to network with other groups on campus, and have events consistently over the next two months,” said Glover regarding the cooperation across student groups.
On Jan. 25, the CSU will be co-hosting the Many Tastes and Clubs Fair at the Hive Café on the Loyola Campus with the Quebec Public Interest Research Group. QPIRG will be holding some of their own events here as well, as part of social justice day where a few guest speakers are slated for Jan. 26.
Glover declined to name any of the speakers, citing a lack of confirmation, but did say that a schedule would be available next week. In the evening, students will be able to enjoy Thirsty Thursday’s at Reggie’s.
Igloofest tickets will also be available during the week at a discounted price. The annual electronic music festival takes place in the Old Port and lasts four weeks.
