Two Down
Pair of CSU Councillors Resign
Less than a month into the academic year, two members of the Concordia Student Union Council have tendered their resignations.
In an e-mail to other council members and the campus media, CSU Chair Nick Cuillerier identified the two councillors as John Bellingham, who represents independent students, and Gregory Syanidis from the John Molson School of Business.
In the e-mail, Bellingham was cited as leaving for “personal reasons with regards to his plans towards his commitment to his academics at Concordia University,” while Syanidis resigned “for academic and personal reasons.”
Syanidis, as well as all other JMSB councillors, ran on the Action slate in last year’s CSU elections, while the majority of councillors, as well as the CSU executive, hail from the Your Concordia slate.
“It is at the discretion at both council and the Chief Electoral Officer to determine whether a byelection will be held,” said Cuillerier. “There is supposed to be a referendum as is in November, but if CEO and Council want to fill those spots at these times, they can do so.”
The official announcement of the resignations will be made at this Wednesday’s Council meeting, at which time the Council will decide how to proceed.
Last year, resignations came early as well, as CSU President Prince Ralph Osei resigned before the beginning of the semester. His spot was ultimately taken by VP Services Heather Lucas.
