Fans at the Concordia Gymnasium received a treat last Thursday night when the Concordia Stingers and the Bishop Gaiters men’s basketball teams clashed. Despite missing two starters, Mukiya Post and Michael Fosu, the Stingers still beat the Bishop’s Gaiters 86-84 in overtime.

Stingers guard Ricardo Monge led his team in scoring with 23 points, stepping up in the absence of notable starters. Meanwhile, first-year Stinger Ken Beaulieu continued to show consistency and growth in his game with a 14-point night.

The Gaiters were led by former Concordia Stinger Kyle Desmarais, who scored a game-high 29 points in defeat.

The Stingers looked to distance themselves from Bishop’s in the third quarter, amassing a 12-point lead. However, the Gaiters would claw their way back, eventually tying the game and forcing overtime.

In overtime, the game was still a back and forth affair. However, with 32 seconds left, Stingers center Jean-Louis Wanya scored the go-ahead basket, giving Concordia the victory.

With the win, the Stingers now improve to a 2-3 record. Their next game will conclude the home and home series versus the Gaiters on Saturday, January 17.
