Letter: Vote for For-Credit Social Justice Research

I’m not usually excited by CSU elections, but there are some important referendum questions in this week’s upcoming by-elections. In particular, I feel the Community-University Research Exchange (CURE Concordia) question is one that students who care about applied learning, community and social justice should pay attention to.

I’ve followed the progress of CURE Concordia as an undergrad, and it’s really cool that students get the opportunity to do research projects with local community groups, especially on relevant social justice issues like migration, health and disability and food security.

I value being able to link classroom learning to the larger world, not just in words, but in practice. Getting credit is nice too! CURE Concordia is asking for $0.08 per credit so that it can expand their amazing program and incorporate more students from all faculties.

I encourage my fellow Concordia students to vote “Yes” to CURE Concordia during the CSU by-elections on Nov. 24 through 26.
