Concordia’s international reputation received a significant boost this month.

The John Molson School of Business’s MBA program climbed 16 spots to 80th out of the 100 best business schools in the world by the magazine_The Economist_.

Despite the leap, JMSB administration said there were no concrete changes in the past year that explain the push in the rankings; rather, they say, it’s just their long-term plan finally paying off.

“Administratively, we’ve just continued to do the things that we have always done,” said Karim Boulos, JMSB Executive Director of External Affairs. “The things that come up at the faculty council are the same—the continuing improvement model is something that has always been there.”

Some JMSB highlights did not fit the criteria of the ranking, though, such as case competitions, an international contest in which students solve a simulated problem in a company on a regional, national or international scale. JMSB students found winning solutions for 2004 and 2006, and came third in 2008.

The students, faculty and staff are also encouraged to create groups, such as Colours of Concordia, which has been fundraising for bursaries since 2003.

“I can’t see JMSB doing more than what they already do,” said third-year JMSB finance major Sean Newman. “I am happy what they offer in terms of classrooms, professors, an internal competitive environment for students and resources available.”
