LEX GILL
Your Concordia Presidential Candidate Lex Gill is in her third year at the School of Community and Public Affairs. She is a longtime member of überculture, a Concordia group that actively resists corporatization on campus.Gill made her foray into Concordia politics when she headed the university’s No to the CFS campaign in 2009-2010. During the campaign, Gill worked to end the CSU’s membership in the Canadian Federation of Students—a national lobby group accused of meddling in student politics and embezzling student funds.
She is also a councillor for the Fusion slate but has largely been critical of her party, opposing the controversial Student Centre fee levy motion and railing against Council for not taking a hard enough stance against the Board of Governors’ firing of former Concordia President Judith Woodsworth.
Gill is also an published writer. Her work has appeared in Maisonneuve Magazine, Adbusters and on Rabble.ca.LAURA BEACH
Hustling signatures of support from nearly every department and faculty on campus last summer for a water-bottle free campus, Laura Beach is one of the founding members of TAPthirst Concordia—a coalition group of students against the privatization of water.
CHAD WALCOTT
Political Science student Chad Walcott is currently serving on the ASFA as VP External and Sustainability. Over the last year, Walcott has organized the ASFA Green Week and the “Ask Why” tuition consciousness-raising campaign.
GONZALO NIETO
Gonzalo Nieto independently ran an unofficial “No” campaign against the Student Centre proposals that were defeated last year. He is an executive for überculture, a group that is “committed to resisting the corporatization of campus and public space.”
